Question time

Do you think you'll be able to use podcasts in future for oral histories?

This question was left for me on my last post from Mylee. I do have thoughts on that. Yes, there is wonderful scope for oral histories. Coffs Harbour Library did the 'Voice of Time' project which was officially launched in September 2007. This project was the digitisation of recordings made in 1988 as a Bicentenary project, that was of course recorded on audio tapes. During the time it took for the digitisation project to be completed it became clear that no Indigenous Australians had participated in the original collection.

With this time of Reconciliation being formalised by our Federal Government, it would be a wonderful thing to have Aboriginal Australians in the Coffs Harbour Region speak their histories and memories. This would complete the picture of history for our region.

There are some great options including using mobile phones http://storyblogging.org/talks/, Palestine http://www.palestineremembered.com/OralHistory/Interviews-Listing/Story1151.html, and using technology to help save Indigenous languages http://www.arwarbukarl.net.au/blog/

I like your ideas for local initiatives.
